Federal Type or Model 3, 5 and 7 sirens
When the year 1950 hit, The Federal Electric Company ( Fedelcode) changed it's name and image to Federal Enterprises. This was also the start of a new looking Type 3, 5 and 7 vertical siren. They were available in 3, 5 or 7 1/2 horsepower. Over the next 40 years ( until production ended around 1990) the housing styles would change ever so slightly which, as you will see, there has been such a variety in the way this siren looks. From tall to short bodies. Some of the sirens carried on the access door to the motor on the outer housing through the 1950's (which helps when dating a siren). This feature was discontinued in 1959. The Model 3,5 and 7 sirens became the most popular, most purchased and the most reliable sirens ever made from Federal -still to this day.
A big misconception between the Model 5 and 7 is: many think the Model 7 is the loudest. This is not true. The model 5 and 7 actually have the same db output. All the H.P. rating does is determine how fast the rotor will peak to top RPM and sound output, and even this can depend on the sirens power source, single phase, 3 phase -be it 208, 220, 440..etc.
