Federal Type or Model #2 sirens
The Model 2 siren is a basically simple 2 horsepower siren. Often referred to as "peanut" sirens, their small size and lower decibel rating make them a perfect candidate for pole or satellite sirens around your district, especially in residential area's ( satellite sirens are intended to provide a little additional coverage where your bigger 5 and 7 horsepower house sirens can't be heard under all conditions). However, these sirens were never intended for main house sirens. Many fire departments have made the mistake in installing a model 2 siren on their firehouse as the main siren. Model 2 sirens only cover about 1/2 a mile. This is unacceptable for your main firehouse siren. Who has made this mistake? Plainview, Wantagh, Garden City Park to name a few... All had perfectly good working model 5/7 sirens on their firehouses and replaced them with a model 2.. Bad move.
